Do I need to know cosmetic formulation?

No. That's exactly why BaseMakers exists. We take care of the foundation of the formulation so you don't have to build a complete formula from individual raw materials. Simply follow the compatibility, usage and mixing instructions provided with your base and ingredients.

Can beginners use BaseMakers?

Yes. BaseMakers is designed to make creating skincare and haircare more approachable, even if you have never formulated before. Some ingredients require more care than others, so always follow the instructions provided for the specific ingredient you're using.

What exactly is a BaseMakers base?

A BaseMakers base is a professionally formulated foundation for a cosmetic product. Depending on the base, this could be a face wash, serum, moisturizer, cleanser, shampoo, conditioner or another product format. You can use it as your starting point and customize it with compatible ingredients.

Can I use the base without adding anything?

Yes. Unless specifically mentioned otherwise on the product page, our bases are complete formulations and can be used as they are. Customization simply allows you to make them more specific to your needs.

How do I choose the right base?

Start with the type of product you want to create. Want a cleanser? → Choose a Face Wash or Cream Cleanser Base. Want a treatment product? → Choose a Serum Base. Want a moisturizer? → Choose the cream or moisturizer base suited to the texture you prefer. You can also use our Create by Concern guides to find suitable combinations.

What can I add to my base?

Depending on the base, you may be able to add Cosmetic Actives such as Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, Panthenol, Tranexamic Acid and other compatible ingredients, and Botanical Extracts such as Licorice, Saffron, Green Tea, Orange Peel and other compatible cosmetic extracts. Always check the compatibility information for your specific base before adding anything.

Are all BaseMakers bases compatible with both actives and botanical extracts?

Our bases are designed with customization in mind and support a wide range of compatible actives and cosmetic botanical extracts. However, not every ingredient is compatible with every base. Solubility, pH, concentration and the form of the ingredient still matter. Always follow the compatibility guide provided for the particular base and ingredient.

Can I add actives and botanical extracts together?

In many formulations, yes. You may want to combine a modern active with a botanical extract to create a more personalized product. However, each combination must still fall within the recommended compatibility and total addition limits of the base.

Can I add any natural ingredient from my kitchen?

No. Do not directly add fresh fruits, juices, milk, herbs, food powders or other unpreserved ingredients to a BaseMakers product unless specifically instructed. For most customization, we recommend using cosmetic-grade botanical extracts designed for formulation.

How much active or extract should I add?

Every ingredient has its own recommended usage level. The correct amount depends on the ingredient, its concentration, the base, and your intended formulation. Follow the usage level provided on the ingredient and formulation guide rather than adding ingredients by estimation.

Can I add more active for better results?

No. More is not always better. Using an ingredient above its recommended level may increase irritation risk and can also affect the pH, texture or stability of your formulation. Use actives at their recommended concentration.

How many ingredients can I add to one base?

This depends on the ingredients and the particular base. Every additional ingredient changes the original formulation slightly. Instead of adding as many ingredients as possible, we recommend choosing a small, purposeful combination based on your concern. Always remain within the total addition limit specified for your base.

Do I need to check the pH after adding actives?

Some ingredients can change the pH of a formulation while others have very little effect. If the formulation guide specifically requires a final pH check, you should check and adjust it according to the instructions provided.

Do I need special equipment?

For most simple BaseMakers customizations, you only need basic tools such as a clean mixing bowl, accurate digital scale, spatula or mixing tool and suitable clean packaging. Specific formulations may require additional equipment, which will be mentioned in the relevant guide.

Do I need to add preservative again?

Do not automatically add extra preservative. BaseMakers bases are already preserved as supplied. Adding another ingredient can affect the overall preservation system depending on what you add and how much you add. Follow the specific customization guide rather than adding preservative unnecessarily.

Will adding ingredients change the shelf life?

It can. The original shelf life applies to the BaseMakers product in its supplied form when stored correctly. Once you customize the product, its stability and shelf life can be influenced by the ingredients added, their concentration, hygiene during mixing and storage conditions. Follow any storage or use-within guidance provided with your formulation.

Why is hygiene important while mixing?

Once you open and customize a product, your tools, hands, containers and ingredients can introduce contamination. Always work with clean, dry and properly sanitized equipment and packaging.

Should I patch test my finished product?

Yes, particularly when introducing new actives or botanical extracts. Apply a small amount appropriately before beginning regular use and discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Will everyone get the same results?

No. Cosmetic results can vary depending on skin or hair type, the concern being addressed, ingredient concentration, routine and consistency of use. BaseMakers does not guarantee identical results for every individual.

Do you charge for shipping?

No. Standard shipping within India is included in our displayed prices. Our website prices are inclusive of applicable taxes and standard shipping charges, so there are no additional standard shipping charges added at checkout.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Orders are generally processed within the timeframe mentioned in our Shipping & Delivery Policy. Delivery time depends on your location and courier serviceability. Tracking information will be shared once your order has been dispatched.

Can I return a BaseMakers product?

Because cosmetic bases and ingredients are sensitive to hygiene, storage and contamination, general returns are not accepted after delivery. However, if your order arrives damaged, leaking, incorrect, incomplete or with a verified manufacturing defect, contact us within 48 hours of delivery.
